RAIN 5G HYPERLOCAL STICKERS

BRIEF

Rain, a South African telecommunications provider, commissioned a series of illustrated stickers to celebrate towns as they expanded network coverage across the country. The objective was to create distinctive, collectible illustrations that captured the character of each location while supporting the brand's rollout campaigns.

MY ROLE

As a Digital Designer, I was responsible for researching assigned towns, developing illustrative concepts, creating the final sticker artwork, and preparing the assets for campaign use. The illustrations were created in Adobe Illustrator with additional texture and finishing in Photoshop.

PROBLEM SOLVED

Each sticker needed to capture the unique identity of a town in a simple, memorable illustration. The challenge was to distil the essence of each location into a design that was visually engaging, instantly recognisable, and effective at a small sticker scale.

The project strengthened my illustration, visual storytelling, and concept development skills, while challenging me to communicate the identity of diverse locations through minimal, scalable artwork.

KEY DECISIONS

DESIGN DIRECTION & STRATEGY

I adopted a retro-inspired illustration style using bold shapes, simplified forms, and textured finishes to create a cohesive collection. Each design highlighted a defining landmark, landscape, or local characteristic, ensuring every sticker reflected the personality of its town while remaining clear and impactful at a small scale.

CONSTRAINTS & SOLVES

Some towns had few recognisable landmarks or lacked a strong visual identity, making them more difficult to represent. I overcame this by researching each location and identifying unique architectural features, landscapes, or cultural characteristics that could be translated into simple, engaging illustrations without compromising the consistency of the overall collection.
