PHONEFAST APP
BRIEF
PhoneFast is a digital fasting app designed to help users build healthier relationships with their phones by encouraging intentional breaks from the digital world. The goal was to create an engaging product experience that made digital fasting simple, motivating, and achievable.
The project involved designing the mobile app from concept to development, as well as creating a supporting landing page to introduce the product and drive app downloads.
MY ROLE
I led the product design process from research and UX strategy through to implementation. My role included conducting competitor research, developing user flows and journeys, designing the mobile app interface, creating the visual direction, collaborating with developers during build, and designing the marketing website.
PROBLEM SOLVED
Many people recognise the negative impact of excessive screen time but struggle to create healthier digital habits. The challenge was to design an experience that encouraged users to disconnect without feeling restrictive or overwhelming.
PhoneFast needed to transform digital fasting into a positive and rewarding experience by providing structure, motivation, and progress tracking.

— BEHIND THE WORK
KEY DECISIONS
DESIGN DIRECTION & STRATEGY
Through competitor research, I identified an opportunity to differentiate PhoneFast by creating a more energising and motivating experience. While many digital wellness apps used minimal and calming interfaces, PhoneFast embraced vibrant colours and playful illustrations to represent the world users reconnect with beyond their screens.
The UX was designed around habit-building principles, introducing features such as personalised fasting goals, challenges, streak tracking, progress history, and reminders to help users stay motivated. The app also included supportive prompts when users attempted to exit a fast, reinforcing commitment while keeping the experience encouraging.
CONSTRAINTS & SOLVES
A key challenge was translating the design vision into a fully developed product. Working closely with developers required multiple rounds of feedback, testing, and refinement to ensure the final app aligned as closely as possible with the original prototype. This collaboration helped bridge the gap between design and technical implementation.
