HALO DISH COVERS

BRIEF

Halo Dish Covers invited emerging designers to create original textile patterns for their annual artist collaboration collection. Designers were given a theme to interpret through illustration, with selected designs going into production as part of the brand’s latest range.

I was assigned the theme Retro Bloom, with the objective of creating a repeat pattern that captured the essence of the brief while remaining suitable for textile printing.

MY ROLE

I developed the concept, created the illustrations, designed the repeating textile pattern, and prepared the artwork for production, ensuring it met the technical requirements for fabric printing.

PROBLEM SOLVED

The challenge was to create a visually distinctive pattern that communicated the Retro Bloom theme while remaining functional for large-scale textile production. The design needed to balance creativity with printability, ensuring the illustrations retained their impact when reproduced on fabric.

My illustration was selected as one of the final designs for Halo Dish Covers' Retro Bloom collection and was produced as part of the brand's annual artist collaboration range.

KEY DECISIONS

DESIGN DIRECTION & STRATEGY

I interpreted the theme through the concept of Flower Power, drawing inspiration from the optimism, nature, and bold graphic style of the 1970s. Using warm colours, playful floral forms, and retro-inspired shapes, I created a vibrant repeat pattern that celebrated the era's iconic aesthetic while remaining suitable for a contemporary product.

CONSTRAINTS & SOLVES

The primary challenge was designing within the technical limitations of textile printing. Fine details could become lost or appear cluttered once printed, so I refined the illustrations to achieve the right balance between visual richness and production quality while preserving the character of the design.
